Global Radio network axing all local broadcasts
I somehow missed this at the start of the year when it was announced, but the company Global who own the likes of capital and heart radio have axed hundred of djs from their local/area stations and instead centralised everything.

Clearly from a bottom line/finance point of view it makes sense but fuck me, the last thing I wanted to hear when I channel hopped on my way in this morning was bloody Amanda Holden on heart. It’s never a station that’s claimed to be the most current or too cool for skool, but having regionalised djs kept the morning content at least relevant and interesting even if the banter in the West Country one was just a couple of middle aged blokes ripping out of a ditsy middle aged blonde who’d been doing it for over 20 years.

I thought the point of ‘heart’ was that they were stations at the heart of their community/area. What a fucking dreadful decision to pull all their regionalised content and replace it with bloody Holden and Jamie theakston!

If he's the bloke I think your on about, mouthy, gibbering spurs gimp who doesn't know when to give his inane, asinine observations a rest, I'm in total agreement.

Thank fuck for that. Living in Sussex we've had to put up with "Jack The Lad" (bald, over weight, and well into his 40s) for too many years now. How the bloke has stayed in radio for so many years is beyond me.

goin' digital has facilitated this, more than anything else id say

Amazing really there is still a music-based radio industry- im sure no-one under 25 ever listens to it nowadays do they?

They’ve been doing this for a couple of decades. Deregulation in radio has taken anything decent and local out and made a small number of large corporations.
In theory anyone could set up something new.

I sometimes listen to XFM/Radio X, but never for long, because they play far too much Oasis/Gallagher Bros stuff.

Heart and the like would make me want to punch things.

Hardly listen to radio stations anymore. Just play my own music over the bluetooth thingy.

Listening to Heart is the closest thing to Chinese water torture as you can get, I'd imagine.

The constantly play the same crap songs over and over and over and over and over again every day.

I agree sniper.... bag o shite ... well it was bag o shite before but at least it was a LOCAL radio bag o shite... that Sue who done the morning show on Heart abused me at a Race for Life race as I only had a credit card on me and not a pocket full of change... absolute minger ...

Re: Global Radio network axing all local broadcasts
Pretty much only ever listen to Radio 2 and Absolute personally, but I did read that Martin, Sue and the morning crew who have been doing Heart Essex for what must have been a couple of decades or more had been fucked off.
